Explore some free audiobooks!

Now its time to explore Librivox.
Librivox provides downloadable mp3s of public domain books. Generally books in the public domain are ones that are not copyrightable or whose copyright has expired. The recordings at Librivox were created by volunteer readers from all over the world. Now’s your chance to experience downloadable audiobooks and if you are so moved you can even learn what it takes to become a volunteer reader.

Discovery Resources:

Introduction to Librivox* – this * minute tutorial covers the downloading process for Librivox audiobooks using Windows Media Player 10. (be patient, it may take a few minutes to upload this for viewing)

Discovery Exercise:

  1. Browse Librivox’s catalog. Search using the author field, the title field, or both. Partial word searches will also generate results.
    • Author search examples: ‘Shakespeare’, ‘Einstein’, ‘Thoreau’
    • Title search examples: ‘poem’, ‘love’, ‘blue’
  2. Create a blog post about your findings.

OPTIONAL: Try downloading a title fromLibrivox. You don’t have to have a portable player to listen to audiobooks, you can also listen to it from a computer.
