The Learning Challenge 2.0 (a.k.a. TLC 2.0) is an online self-discovery program that encourages the exploration of Web 2.0 tools and new technologies, specifically 23 Things. The program has been set up as part of a collaborative project between Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Libraries and the Broward County Libraries (BCL).        Both institutions share a common goal in this project:
“Provide library staff with sufficient knowledge and training – in the most efficient manner – so they may provide service and assistance to Broward County residents who inquire how to use these technologies.”BCL’s version of TLC 2.0 encourages the following activities:
EXPLORING a sample of the new technologies that are reshaping how people use the Internet to access information and interact with one another.COLLABORATING with colleagues for help and ideas. Web 2.0 is all about sharing ideas and tips, and creating resourceful online communities.REWARDING staff who take the initiative to complete the self-discovery exercises.THINKING about how these new technologies can be used to support the Broward County Commission’s Five Year Workplan for Fiscal Years 2006-2010, specifically -  Goal 6 – Accessible Information and Services
Ensure the consistent, strategic placement of knowledge and services infrastructure.
Goal 7 – Culture and Learning  Invest resources in cultural systems and cultural infrastructure that best support our  region as a global destination, a center of learning, and a marketplace of diverse communities.THINKING about how these new technologies could be used to support some of the key initiatives of Broward County Library’s Customer Service Improvement Plan, specifically -

  • Develop a team to evaluate new on-line services and add new features throughout the planning period.
  • Newer employees need more support and continuing education training and experiences.
  • Maintain the Employee Communication Plan but evaluate and explore new communication methods.

    Thing 12
Yes, Library 2.0 has aided in helping libraries keep up with the ever changing technology. This technology has effected how and how fast we get information to the library customers.

But, look out; coming soon to a library near you is Library 3.0.

Visit my blog and follow the link- it contains a sample of an interesting job application.

Check our my blog at http://trainer316.blogspot.com

I’m still working on developing this blog. I’m trying to figure out how to make sure I can register the right people to visit the site for now.

  17. rbatistaon 15 Dec 2007 at 6:53 pm

One needs a Second Life to do all these 23 things. I’m doing them catch-as-catch-can and doing what I can higgledy-piggledy. I find the instructions confusing and the information overload amusing. I’m sure that’s why this was envisioned.

Perhaps as I keep plugging at it, it will fall into place. I had hoped that it would have been more methodical, but, it turns out, it’s a mash-up here, and hit-and-miss there.

But it’s all good. Anyway you look at it.

I have learned so much from TLC 2.0.
I now have greater confidence in my
ability to learn new technology. I have
developed a new lingo. My children
especially have been impressed by the
my blog spot. I am no longer “lost
in space”. I consider myself a space
cadet. I’m no longer afraid of the
    unknown and equipped with my
new knowledge base I am ready to
    explore new galaxies.

Now that I completed it…It was fun…It was informative…and I’m actually going to use some of it. Thanks!
