Listed below are 23 Things (or small exercises) that you can do on the web to explore and expand your knowledge of the Internet and Web 2.0. You are encouraged to complete the exercises on the list each week in order to qualify to win one of the weekly rewards.Those staff that complete and record all 23 items by January 7, 2008 (revised 1/4/08 DJ) will also qualify for the Grand Prize drawing and other prizes that will be awarded at TLC 2.0 Wrap up party on January 10, 2008.

For those who just can’t get enough, we’ve added a few bonus things. :) Note: Details about each task will be activated every week with posts related to each item.The release date next to each week represents the date on which the exercises will be activated. The due date for each week represents the date you must complete your tasks by if you want to qualify for the weekly incentives.

Week 1: Introduction (Release Date 10/11; Due Date: 10/20)

  1. Introduction & Registration.
  2. Discover a few pointers from lifelong learners and learn how to nurture your own learning process.

Week 2: Blogging (Release Date: 10/11; Due Date: 10/27)

  1. Set up your own blog & add your first post.
  2. Register your blog on the TLC 2.0 program blog and begin your Learning Challenge 2.0 journey.

RSS & Newsreaders

  1. .Learn about RSS feeds and setup your own Bloglines newsreader account.
  2. Locate a few useful library related blogs and/or news feeds.
  3. .

Week 3: Photos & Images (Release Date: 10/28 Due Date: 11/3)

  1. Explore Flickr and learn about this popular image hosting site.
  2. Have some Flickr fun and discover some Flickr mashups & 3rd party sites.
  3. Create a blog post about anything technology related that interests you this week.

Week 4: Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati (Release Date: 11/4 Due Date: 11/10)

  1. Learn about tagging and discover Del.icio.us (a social bookmaking site)
  2. Explore how tags work with blog posts by visiting the Geeks on Tour Blog . Then, go to your own blog and create some tags.
  3. Read a few perspectives on Web 2.0, Library 2.0 and the future of libraries and blog your thoughts.

Week 5: Extended Play Week (Release Date: 11/11 Due Date: 11/24)

  1. Play around with an online image generator.
  2. Take a look at LibraryThing and catalog some of your favorite books.
  3. Roll your own search tool with Rollyo.

Week 6: Wikis (Start Date 11/25; Due Date 12/1)

  1. Learn about wikis and discover some innovative ways that libraries are using them.
  2. Playing around PBWiki SandBox

Week 7: Online Applications & Tools (Start Date: 12/2 Due Date: 12/8)

  1. Take a look at some online productivity (word processing, spreadsheet) tools.
  2. Explore any site from the Web 2.0 awards list, play with it and write a blog post about your findings.

Week 8: Video and Podcasts (Start Date: 12/9 Due Date: 12/15)

  1. Discover YouTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos.
  2. Discover some useful search tools for locating podcasts.

Week 9: E-Books & Social Networking Sites (Release Date: 12/16 Due Date 12/29)

  1. Learn about OverDrive audiobooks
  2. Take a look at Facebook, create a profile, find colleagues or join a group.

All 23 Things Summary (Release Date: 12/16 Due Date 1/5/2008)

  1. Complete the user survey about the TLC Web 2.0 experience. Survey will be e-mailed to you on January 4th. You will have until January 18, 5pm to complete the survey. If you did not receive the survey contact David Jess djess@ (DJ 1/4/08)
  2. Even if you missed the opportunity to complete your exercises each week you now have until Monday, January 7th (revised 1/4/08 DJ) to complete all 23 Things AND record them. If you do this then you will receive a certificate and qualify to win one of the grand prizes! Winners will be announced at the TLC 2.0 wrap-up party on January 10, 2008.

    I finally finished (fun!) all 23 Things as of 12/28; however, I am unable to “Complete the user survey about the TLC Web 2.0 experience” because I cannot locate aforementioned survey. Where is it? Help! Thanks, AMY

    I am finally done with “23″ and I am kind of proud of myself.
    I didn’t’ have a clue on the beginning.

    #14 was interesting. I posted something on the Librarything website. I gave an opinion regarding the Eric Clapton’s autobiography. It was one of the books I chose for my favorite books section.
